What is on the other side when we die? It is a debate that can spark heated arguments, fueled by people who claim to have been to the other side – and returned. However, tobacco merchant Guifré Galbó from Girona in Catalonia gained worldwide notoriety in occult circles a few years ago when he took things a significant step further. Guifré claimed to have been in hell, from which he returned. According to him, Girona was struck by an earthquake while Guifré was working in his tobacco shop. A huge box of Cuban cigars had apparently fallen from a high shelf and dealt a blow to the unfortunate tobacco merchant's skull. When Guifré regained consciousness, he found himself in a terrifying sea of flames and had no doubt that he had ended up in the fires of hell. As a devout Catholic with only a few missteps in his life – Mercé was her name – he felt treated very unfairly. And according to the story he later told, he demanded to speak to the person in charge, explained the complete unreasonableness of the situation, and suddenly regained consciousness, lying on the floor of his tobacco shop, surrounded by ambulance staff. Today, Guifré Galbó leads his own congregation, called 'Hellfire & Damnation,' because that is exactly what he preaches. And he claims to know what he is talking about – being the only person to have gone to hell and come back again.
